A positive pregnancy test doesn't guarantee that your pregnancy is viable. Thirty-one percent of pregnancies end on their own. An ultrasound will determine if the pregnancy is viable.
A pregnancy test cannot determine if your pregnancy is occurring in your uterus or in your fallopian tube (ectopic). An ultrasound can determine the location. If your pregnancy is ectopic, this could pose a threat to your health. In this case, you would need immediate medical care by a physician.
